A few days before the official announcement of the new Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones, which took place last night, we had the opportunity to hold in our hands the new flagships of the Korean brand, the S23, the S23+ and especially the S23 Ultra that left. to us with a very soft and frankly pleasant impression.

Summary

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, “the best Samsung Galaxy S ever created”
  • Galaxy S or Galaxy Note? The Galaxy S23 Ultra brings together the best of both worlds
  • The S Pen, that little extra thing that can make the difference

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, “the best Samsung Galaxy S ever created”

Less than a year after the release of the S22 range (the S22 Ultra was first released on February 25, 2022, followed by the S22 and S22+ on March 11) the S23 range is now out and without too much surprise, it’s done it again up to three models, the S23, the S23+ and the S23 Ultra, which I had the chance to hold in my hands for a few minutes a few days ago.

To be honest, I haven’t had a chance to test the S22 Ultra over time or any of the other models in the range from last year, however I’m using more now. 4 months with a Galaxy Z Fold4 that literally changed my view of the brand and smartphones in general.

Combined S23 Ultra, S23+ and S23

Because if I had left iOS a long time ago, I would have been more in favor of the purest possible environments and the idea of an overlay being too present might have been a purchase brake for me. But with tests and excursions, I began to taste the Samsung ecosystem with a watch (Galaxy Watch 5 Pro), a laptop (Galaxy Book 2 Pro) and therefore a Galaxy Z Fold4 as a smartphone. As a result, I was really intrigued and attentive to the announcements this year and with this quick first approach, I was definitely not disappointed with what I had in my hands.

If you want to have all the technical details of the new S23, S23+ and S23 UItra, I invite you to consult the news we published last night during and after the conference:

For my part, I will only give you my first feeling, on the spot, in my handling of the S23 Ultra, “The best Samsung Galaxy S created” according to the brand, at the same time, the opposite is surprising. !

Galaxy S or Galaxy Note? The Galaxy S23 Ultra brings together the best of both worlds

So in the new offices of Samsung France, a few days ago, I had the opportunity to discover and get my hands on the latest smartphone of the brand, the famous Galaxy S23 for the first time. Ultra.

As I said above, I have no comparisons with the S22 range but only with the Galaxy Z Fold4, another flagship of the range in a completely different style. And it must be recognized that once the fear and surprise of the foldable format passes, it is difficult to return to a “traditional” smartphone. However, as soon as I picked up the Galaxy S23 UItra in the let’s say “forest green” outfit, I immediately felt a sense of well-being inside me, which is quite difficult to express.

The beautiful 6.8-inch QHD+ (3088x1440p) display is certainly pointless in this business. In this regard, it mocks the trend of recent years, which wants the most “premium” smartphones of all to have an increasingly curved screen. If the “Wow” effect is clearly present, it still often causes more problems than positive points.

Between the hassle of putting on shells and screen protectors, the fact of pressing in an unfortunate way with your palm or even the applications that do not all manage the curvature well, in the end we can say to ourselves that this can – be a false good idea. Suddenly, backtrack, and if we are still far from the edges of iPhones or certain brands, here the curve is smooth and light and we appreciate this step back.

Still on the screen, which literally shocked me, remember that it offers an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz and a max brightness of 1750 nits that should do wonders in the tropical sun.

The S Pen, that little extra thing that can make the difference

I tried the Galaxy Note a few years ago and often wondered about getting it as I found the hybrid side interesting. Then the years passed, I put this option aside. My Z Fold4 is compatible, but with no storage space planned (unless I put a big shell), I decided to give up…

I immediately threw myself into the S23 Ultra’s tiny stylus and immediately enjoyed using it to navigate the interface, draw letters, take notes or simply touch it, just like a notebook and pen would. And honestly, the feel is extremely pleasant and is probably where the S23 UItra can make a difference to other premium devices from the competition.

The picture side should also be a big highlight with its new 200 Mpx in-house sensor, but we’ll tell you more about that during our testing in a few weeks. Ditto for the overall performance of the device which this time benefits for everyone from a Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 “custom” socinstead of the much-criticized Exynos 2200 that didn’t convince many people last year.

Simply put, we can’t wait to test the new Galaxy S23 range and see if the S23 Ultra delivers on all its promises. Answers are expected for the February 17 release of the devices!
