Here’s the electric car that can do a lot of damage to the Renault Mégane E-Tech

After the 001 and 009, Zeekr is working on the development of a new electric car, the Zeekr 003. It takes the form of a compact SUV that is heavily camouflaged and designed for a European launch. Expected in the coming months, it should thrill the Renault Mégane E-Tech and other Volkswagen ID.3s.

If you haven’t heard of Zeekr before, that should change soon. Because the Chinese firm, part of the Geely group together with Volvo, Lotus or Lynk & Co is on its way to becoming important in the automotive market. If it is only temporarily sold in its home country, it should not delay to invade Europe as well, in the same way as BYD, Nio or even Xpeng. It did not fail to worry the specialists.

A model designed for Europe

In November, the company formalized its 2021 009, a large high-end van that will soon be available in a version designed in collaboration with Volvo for the Chinese market. A few months later, at the beginning of January, it was the turn of the Zeekr 001, a big rival of the Tesla Model 3 electric sedan, to present its detailed and very promising technical specifications in a new version with 1,000 km of autonomy.

But the manufacturer clearly does not intend to stop there, especially since it plans to develop in the European market. For that, he needs more than a sedan and a big van, which probably won’t make it to us. This is how Zeekr published a series of fake spyshots sent by the site Autohome showing his next model. This one has the name 003 and is still camouflagedcurrently in the testing phase on European roads.

With a colorful body that makes the lines difficult to read, this new compact SUV seems to present a front end that is quite close to the 001, reminiscent of what Lynk & Co. already offers. Logical when we know the brands are the same. group. So we found similar vertical optics, which goes beyond a thin light band in front. The design of the car seems to have been made to ensure optimal aerodynamics, along with, among other things, body-integrated handles.

Note, however, that thehis SUV has real mirrors, not cameras. At the rear, it is distinguished by lights with a very particular and modern design, then taking the form of a simple light strip. We noticed both the vertical reflectors look a little lower. This new Zeekr 003 should be around 4.38 meters long, 11 centimeters longer than the Smart #1, one of its main rivals.

Up to 1,000 kilometers?

The wheelbase should measure 2.75 meters, which should comfortably accommodate passengers. No image of the driving position has been unveiled yet, but it could be close to the Zeekr 001 with 14.7-inch touchscreen and 8.8-inch digital handset. However, we have to wait before knowing more about it.

No information has been revealed on the technical sheet of the future Zeekr 003, which may take over the engine of his sister. As a reminder, it is available in several versions, including autonomy varies between 546 and 1,032 kilometers in a charge according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. The latter is more optimistic than our WLTP, and you have to remove about 15%, giving a maximum of about 850 to 900 kilometers.

The electric SUV may be equipped with a Qilin CTP 3.0 battery developed by Chinese giant CATL. using technology cell-to-pack with cells integrated into the chassis, the 001 has a capacity of 100 kWh to 140 kWh. Competing with Tesla’s 4680 battery, it can be recharged in 10 minutes at a fast terminal delivering more than the 360 ​​kW currently available in France. Perhaps this will be possible with the 500 kW Nio terminal currently under construction.

This new Zeekr 003 should see the light of day in the coming months, after being revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show next April. It will be sold in China first before arriving in Europe shortly. So, it should compete directly with the Renault Mégane E-Tech and the Volkswagen ID.3, but also with the MG 4 and its unbeatable price in the segment.
