Victor Wembanyama and the Mets 92 found their pet peeve

Marcel-Cerdan bleeding, Victor Wembanyama in demonstration, the back line Stefan Moody – Ronald March on another planet, brave Bilal Coulibaly, the patterned shirt of Jean-Denys Choulet and Maxime Roos tempting (and winning) the devil . There is no forced nature, just a natural promotion for French basketball. Two teams. One is carried away by his wonder. Another by its attractive collective. We are debriefing.

The last time Marcel-Cerdan was full, he left the bar during the interwar period.

The perfect crowd to write the scenario of a good revenge. On December 6, the Mets 92 took the soup in the suburbs of Saint-Etienne: beat 102 to 77, Victor Wembanyama and Tremont Waters kept at 15 points each, the dolphin of the French championship on the mat. A stick of dynamite was placed in the Levalloisian defense, it is necessary to understand its origin. Roanne is too strong or the Mets are too much soft ? The approach to Vincent Collet’s group meeting is bad. Almost immature, against a collection of experienced players who – with this fourth consecutive victory – began their transformation into a collective. 52 days later, nothing Tremont Water and Hugo Besson, Levallois hopes for his redemption. The Chorale de Roanne made the trip. Jean-Denys Choulet’s team was only 8th ex aequo but surfing a dynamic eight victories for only three defeats. He is the best attack in the championship with… 91 point average. By comparison, no French league team has finished the season with a better attack since Pau in 2002-03.

One stone after another, Choulet’s desired building takes shape. Levallois will need a big Victor Wembanyama to hope to topple this feisty visitor. Its inner conflict Silvio De Sousa (former Kansas Jayhawks) will be scrutinized. The Angolan has the right profile to annoy Victor: a 2m03 soldier, mobile, upright and tough underbody. A “Jim Bilba” kind of project to polish.

Victor Wembanyama and Silvio De Sousa in between

Four minutes into the game and seven points for Victor. We’re feeling the big night for him, but we’re especially feeling the absence of Tremont Waters at the 1 position. DeVante Jones is transparent, and justin james – 40th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft – struggling to set up Mets offenses. We see him more as a scoring back who goes back and forth on the throwing line, than as a manager who can read the game like Waters does. And this is in stark contrast to Stefan Moody’s creativity. The 1m78 man delivered the penultimate pass of all Roanne’s counter-attacks. Impressive accuracy and timing. A night with only two lost balls with this “dangerous” game. By all means, the central gear of the best attack in the championship. He still paid a scotch to Victor Wembanyama. It could have ended with DeAndre Jordan/Brandon Knight, but – despite the 43 centimeter difference – Stefan Moody fought off the big attacker. Chorale leads 30 to 22 at the end of the 1st quarter. Victor, too sad, has already compiled 11 points on 4/5 shooting4 rebounds, 3 blocks and 17 in seven minutes of play.

The physiognomy the Mets fear is playing out before our eyes. Against Viktor, Silvio De Sousa cash in but don’t move. The Angolan struggled to defend the indefensible, but returned half the favor to the other side. And “half the same” is more than enough for Roanne to keep the gap to eight, nine or ten units. Why? Since there is no Tremont Waters, the backcourt de Levallois draws water: Ronald Marchobviously killed the Mets in a striker role/sharpshooter. Two dribbles and it shoots, or fakes a shot and it’s big drive which changes the entire defense. Apart from Bandja Sy and Lahaou Konaté, no one else performer de Levallois tries to stop the celebration of Roanne. It is a little naive, but it is especially strong in the front. The impression of a group that has been playing together for three seasons. It is reminiscent of JDA Dijon under Laurent Legname. All things considered, eh, but a wealth of profiles with perfectly defined and respected roles. Even Kadri Moendadze, who was struggling with his first shots, ended up in the parking lot. The collective carries the individual.

Chorale leads 56 to 47 at the break: without Victor (19 points on 7/10 shooting, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 1 assist), Levallois cannot survive.

3rd quarter of madness, double sanction by Victor Wembanyama in 3-points, Bilal Coulibaly’s tap dance has been passed down to posterity. The Mets “restick” to less than ten units … then it’s the dry breakdown. Victor shot 1/10 in the last thirteen minutes of the game, Anzejs Pasecniks – not satisfied with the referees – still not bringing a solution inside, the Big Three Stefan Moody – Ronald March – Silvio De Sousa does not lose any of his success, and the fourth Rose from the carriage places a large candy on Wembanyama’s head. Not really a game in the last quarter. More or less fifteen points apart, Chorale held on to its victory. The intensity of JaKeenan Grant off the bench allows Titus to pioneer without fear of a whistle awakening by Choulet. The euphoria created by the wave of highlights fell back. Victory 102 to 84 for Golden State Roannais, Stefan Moody MVP of the meeting, Ronald March not far behind. The Loire team just passed the 8th of the Betclic Élite.

For more “anecdotal” stats, Victor finished the game with 31 points on 12/28 shooting, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks and… -3 of Extra discount. In an 18-point loss, it says a lot about the nature of his (and his teammates’) impact.

Without the experience and composure of Tremont Waters, the Mets once again took 102 points to the baggage of Chorale de Roanne. Awesome team than JD Choulet lined up. May he not deviate from his momentum. It’s pure basketball.
