NBA Trade Deadline 2023 – what will the Chicago Bulls do?

With the NBA Trade Deadline approaching, the leaders of the 30 franchises are busy making the necessary transfers before the fateful date of February 9. Of course, each team’s situation is different, and it is precisely for this reason that we want make special deadline paper by franchise. Presenting issues, issues to watch, intentions in the transfer market… we explain it all to you. We continue this Monday with the Chicago Bulls!

Are the Bulls, rather buyers or sellers at the deadline?

With very mixed results – 21-24, 10th in the East – the Bulls should be on the selling side this winter. Two names in particular were mentioned: Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine. For Niko, the situation is more focused on maintaining Chicago at the moment, but nothing is completely sealed. The one about Zach LaVine is more complicated and could be fixed instead this summer.

So let’s talk about Vooch’: final year of contract this season, with a very busy payroll and which can only accommodate $8 million more next year if it stays in the current state of things effective level.

Nikola was paid very little, that much was clear. Still, there was no question of letting the big man leave Illinois with a bouquet of flowers and a “luck” as if it were the end of a third-grade discovery internship. No, the idea is mainly to use his good recent performances to recover as much as possible at the beginning of February… although at the time of writing, Arturas Karnisovas plans to keep everything.

With Coby White awaiting departure, the Windy City is also looking for small transfers to bolster its lead. With Lonzo Ball still out, it can only be positive to bring some experience to the 1 position.

DeMar DeRozan? The Bulls franchise player is not expected to be more than that at the airport in three weeks, but the rumor that the Lakers may consider sending their first rounds of the Draft 2027 and 2029 may create a reflection on Arturas Karnisovas, head of basketball operations with the Bulls. The relatively important nature of this transfer may push the case to find its outcome this summer as well.

  • Nikola Vucevic : 32-year-old pivot who averaged 17.5 points, 11 rebounds and 3.2 assists on 52.1% shooting this season, under contract through this summer for a salary of 22 million in 2022-23.
  • Coby White : young leader of 22 years old who sent 8.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 43.5% shooting. The biftons? 7.4 million this season and a status of restricted free agentalways nice to have.

So far, no player has been reported as a priority target for the Bulls, but Vucevic’s hypothetical departure would de facto lead to the team looking to find another interior talent to replace him. We should follow the rumors closely in the coming days, as the interest of teams for the pivot will only increase from now on.

Chicago could also look to recoup draft picks, which are an endless amount of money and which could, in the event of a complete implosion of the group this summer, go a long way in a rebuild ahead.
