The beginning of the game was relatively balanced but it was Dallas, with better outside skills, who took a slight lead (14-8). Reggie Bullock, great early in the game, chained two consecutive 3-point baskets to allow the Mavericks to consolidate their lead.
Dallas shot 6/12 from behind the arc on 3-pointers in the first quarter. A rude address confirmed by a 3-point buzzer from Luka Doncic to finish this first action in style (31-19).
The Mavericks started the second quarter as they ended the first, with a great outside address, well distributed. All players are involved in a well-functioning collective.
Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler are currently out of the subscribers, the Heat then rely on Victor Oladipo to stick around (47-37). But Luka Doncic excelled and the Slovenian, with 17 points on the clock 4 minutes from the break, allowed his team to take a 15-point lead (56-41). Miraculously, Miami returned to the locker room with only 9 points behind (60-51).
Back from the locker room, a 3-point basket from Caleb Martin allows Miami to return to just six points (60-54). But Dallas would erase this potential Heat comeback by taking a 15-point lead (72-57). Miami failed to respond and saw the gap increase above 20 points (83-61). Dallas leads by 25 points at the end of the 3rd quarter (92-67).
The 4th quarter will be “garbage season”. Dallas won 115-90 and returned to victory, after snapping three straight losses.
WHAT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER
– Mavericks 3-point address. Dallas relies on an impressive 3-point address: 18/38 for 47.4% success! They got in early, which allowed them to get the lead on the Heat very quickly and maintain a high offensive tempo throughout the game. Heat players decided to double Luka Doncic on almost every possession, leaving other Mavericks players open. They were punished.
– Disappointing Heat leaders. Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry all came to their match. They didn’t play their best game and that showed in Miami’s collective performance, and the hungry offensive performance that Jason Kidd must be pleased with.
✅ Luka Doncic. He had a great match, being very good. Above all, he is the Mavericks’ boss in leading the attack as usual. He showed his qualities as a leader with his game intelligence and his vision: 34 points on 12/24 shooting including 5/8 from 3-pointers as well as 12 rebounds and 7 assists.
✅ Reggie Bullock. He was hot early on by punishing the Heat every time Miami’s defense brought Luka Doncic to two: 15 points on 5/6 on 3-pointers.
✅ Victor Oladipo. He was the only one satisfied with the Heat: 20 points on 9/12 shooting including 2/3 on 3-pointers.
⛔️ The holders of Heat. They are indistinguishable both offensively and defensively. No aggression or jealousy.
