Even without Rudy Gobert, the Wolves proved they can defend well
Still without Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota must also make do without Rudy Gobert, Austin Rivers and Jordan McLaughlin. It wasn’t perfect before the Raptors received it, less than 24 hours after losing to Denver. Absences that didn’t stop the Wolves from achieving one of the best “comebacks” of the season, thanks to their… defense!
Early in the morning in Minneapolis, Chris Finch’s men looked like they had no foot in the game at the start of the game, to the point where they were as much as 18 points behind.
They still led by 14 points with 10 minutes remaining, and 12 points with less than 8 minutes left. To break out of this attack battle and execute the hold-up, there is only one solution: chain the stops.
Anthony Edwards led by example
“The effort was great from the whole group, so congratulations to our group” D’Angelo Russell was satisfied, author of 16 points in the final quarter. “In the 4th quarter, we were all on the same wavelength defensively, from position 1 to 5. Everyone took their responsibilities. If one guy gets beat, the next guy is there and the other guy is still behind, that’s what our group looks like to be successful.”.
D’Angelo Russell didn’t name them but three players did a monster job in the final five minutes: Kyle Anderson, Jaden McDaniels and even Anthony Edwards.
The young Wolves scorer was impressive with his support and aggressiveness, especially with Pascal Siakam. The Cameroonian found no solution to score in the final minutes. Overall, Minnesota should be congratulated with only two points conceded in the last five minutes!
Have fun defending
“I am satisfied with the efforts of our players” delighted with Chris Finch. “They don’t have much energy. It took them a long time to find him. I think the key to the game was the fact that we were able to keep scoring until we found a rhythm in defense.”.
A welcome burst of defense, that pack Kyle Andersonthe “glue-guy” of the team.
“It’s awesome, and there’s a way to have fun in defense” he looked back. “We have players here who can really defend well. It’s just about being focused on your player, and being ready to help your teammate. You can have fun defending. We played well on both sides of the pitch in the last six minutes. We have to do it in 48 minutes. »
