The Rockets dunce cap suits them well
Author of a disastrous third quarter, losing 43-26, Houston suffered against Sacramento (139-114) in the 9th straight loss! This is also the 14th of 15 games!
Facing the dunce caps of the NBA, Domantas Sabonis celebrated a triple-double in the key: 19 points, 15 rebounds and 16 assists. Sacramento, as a whole, enjoyed a sloppy defense with 55% shooting skills including 20/40 from 3-pointers.
“It’s a good team, they’re really good” Stephen Silas admitted. ” Sabonis attacked us and he is obviously a complicated player for us to defend. When we played him 1v1, he scored. When we doubled him, he passed to 3-point shooters, and that was a big part of the problem. As a result, when you cannot get a player with two players or play him 1v1, it becomes very complicated, and then it is clear that their shooters are hot. As for adjustments, it’s hard when you can’t defend the best player. »
A simple, even simplistic analysis, proving that a player’s talent can break the 3rd worst defense in the NBA (116.6 points against 100 possessions).
A group crossed all over the place
Clearly, since the start of the season, Houston’s main problem has been on defense, but it goes beyond an inability to defend against the best opposing players. Efforts were not made regularly, especially in transition, and we saw Domantas Sabonis cross the field after his rebound without slowing down.
Result: easy basket, or successful shift for shooters. As proof, Malik Monk’s three consecutive 3-point shots were in transition.
” Generally, when our offense is bad and we get bad shots, it leads to baskets in transition for them. This keeps us behind in the score, and it happens over and over again explained Jabari Smith Jr. They’re gone and it’s hard to get back. The priority for the second part of the season is to play complete matches together and well. Any series of opponents, even high and low. »
Constancy in effort was what the young Rockets lacked and they burst within five minutes in the middle of the 3rd quarter. A period of time in which Sabonis would go on a 23 point streak!
” When there is difficulty, and this is what I told the group, we must react together “The coach of the Rockets insisted. ” In all areas: defense, helping each other, trusting, playing for each other. On offense, moving the ball and trusting yourself on offense. It’s just a matter of mutual trust ” he added.
When we see them play, we really wonder if the players have confidence in each other, but also in their coach …
