Finally. It took until mid-January, and notably two games in a row against the weak Hornets, to see Toronto pull together a three-game winning streak. Milwaukee could also aim for a third straight win in Miami, but without Giannis Antetokounmpo and several key players, the Heat got it all.
Finally, a winning return for Ricky Rubio, essential to the Cavaliers’ victory in Portland. Damian Lillard shined (50 points) in vain and the Blazers sank into crisis with a five-game losing streak.
Philadelphia–Oklahoma City Brooklyn–Boston LA Lakers–Dallas
Toronto–Charlotte: 124-114
Rebel for the Raptors. The Canadians didn’t score twenty award-winning baskets like in the previous game, but the Toronto collective quickly took control of the game. The ball rolled, Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby each scored 12 points in the first quarter and the Raptors took a nine-point lead.
The Hornets battled for a while, thanks to LaMelo Ball, but they lost too many turnovers (eight in the second quarter, 22 overall). Inevitably, Toronto seized the opportunity to fly. Siakam tried to bring home the point after the break, but Charlotte was still in the game. Ball missed several key shots in the final 80 seconds and Fred VanVleet stunned the Hornets with a 3-pointer.

Miami-Milwaukee: 108-102
Back-to-back, the Bucks came to Miami with many absentees (Giannis Antetokounmpo, Grayson Allen, Khris Middleton, Serge Ibaka, Joe Ingles…) but they did not miss the start of the game. They lead by 15 points after fifteen minutes of play.
Except that Jrue Holiday (24 points, 11 assists) was a little alone and on the contrary, Bam Adebayo (24 points, 12 rebounds) and the Heat insisted on the inside. The Floridians are dominating the rebound battle and they have a lot of points on the racket. Gabe Vincent also shined with his career high (28 units) and Miami won after a controlled final quarter.

Portland–Cleveland: 113-119
If Damian Lillard seemed bothered by the ankle soreness, he didn’t show any major signs of weakness against the Cavaliers. The Blazers started well, took the lead and the playmaker scored 25 points in the first period.
In the second half, the returning Ricky Rubio (9 points), for his first game in a year, is showing himself to be important. He hit 3-pts twice to keep Cleveland running. In the last action, the Cavaliers responded: Donovan Mitchell and his family chain the baskets and, despite his 50 points, Lillard must bow and Portland still cannot break his black streak.
