The Jays imposed their law on the Pelicans
When it’s not one, it’s the other… or sometimes both at the same time! Too small, the Pelicans fell to a Brown-Tatum duo at the top of their basketball, and they lost 125-114 on the floor of the Celtics. It was Boston’s 4th straight win, and 8th in 10 games. Al Horford, with a 3-point shot, put the Celtics on the right track, followed by a 9-0 run by Jayson Tatum at the start of the 2nd quarter.
But conversely, one player is also at the top of his basketball: CJ McCollum. The New Orleans back will doubt the Celtics for halftime with his 22 points on 6 of 7 3-pointers! On the Celtics side, Jaylen Brown already had his double-double in his pocket, and Boston entered the locker room with a six-point lead (64-58).
Malcolm Brogdon would bring an additional spark in the 3rd quarter, supported by the expansive Brown. The back of the Celtics makes a total of Trey Murphy III between the “fadeaway” and the “spin move”, and he gave a 12-point lead (97-85), while reaching 36 points.
In the last quarter, the gap reached 15 points, but CJ McCollum brought the Pelicans back to 10 points with 7 minutes left.
This is the back of New Orleans against the rest of the world, and the Celtics, through the “Jay’s”, responded to him 11-3 to make the break again, and prove the 4th consecutive victory that it (125-114 ) .
WHAT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER
A complementary duo. This season, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have probably never played so well together, and tonight they had 72 points, 25 of 43 on shots. It’s the 19th time in their career that they’ve gone over 30 points together in the same game. The Celtics record? 18 wins for 1 loss.
The rebound. Although deprived of Robert Williams III, survived tonight’s shock against the Nets, the Celtics were more dominant under the panels: 50 got 33, with 11 offensive rebounds, and only 4 left on the other side of the field. At the break, the Celtics had 12 more rebounds than the Pelicans.
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ Jaylen Brown. When he hits the bull’s eye from distance, like tonight, it opens up the game for him, and his power is what’s left. He was in “attack mode” all night.
✅ Jayson Tatum. For once, he was the Lieutenant, but he knew how to make the difference when it was needed like in the 2nd Quarter, or in the last five minutes.
✅ Malcolm Brogdon. A very clean game, 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists off the bench. The Pelicans had no substitute for that level that night.
✅ CJ McCollum. He has held the team at arm’s length since Zion Williamson’s injury. His first half was at a very high level.
⛔Larry Nance Jr.. 0 points in 20 minutes with a +/- of -20. A game of nothing for the Pelicans’ usual 6th man.
