Without Joel Embiid, Philadelphia is scared against Indiana

Joel Embiid’s orphans, embarrassed by the foot, the Sixers accepted Pacers who remained on a four-game winning streak, with strong intentions to win for the third time in a row. The goal was achieved, certainly in pain, as the Philly players won after extra time (129-126).

Led by a great James Harden (26 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists), well supported by Tobias Harris (19 points, 10 rebounds), De’Anthony Melton (19 points, 7 rebounds) or even Tyrese Maxey (17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists), the franchise of Philadelphia first mastered his subject for three quarters, before leaving Indiana return to the last act, under the impulse of Buddy Hield (24 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists).

But, in added time, the defense and the experience of the locals calmed down these fiery visitors, not far from the steal, but in the end too short.

WHAT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER

Philadelphia cracked first at the end… Although they still had a 13-point lead after three quarters, and were up 12 with eight minutes to go, the Sixers lost the thread. Authors of 6 turnovers in the final action, when they had committed only 5 turnovers in the first three quarters, Doc Rivers’ men also took lightning on defense, between Buddy’s prized baskets Hield or the counterattack points of the entire Indy team. A rest in the end was of no consequence, but nevertheless marred a pretty serious performance, before that.

…but Philadelphia broke away. With the forceps, and despite the dynamic not being in their favor, the Sixers found the resources needed to win, in overtime, their third straight victory. An extension the locals earned by making two crucial interceptions in the final 40 seconds of the fourth quarter, which led to two counterattack baskets from Tyrese Maxey. Before this same defense also gets the job done in five minutes of overtime, to limit Indiana to 6 small points (2/7 on shots and 0/2 on 3-pts).

James Harden was assured without Joel Embiid. Losing their best player, the Sixers had to rely on a great performance from “The Beard” and he – generally – responded. “Overall”, because his fourth quarter and his extension were more complicated in scoring, after a hot start, all in aggressiveness. Undoubtedly dulled over time, the leader of Philly assigned some responsibilities to Tyrese Maxey, but also to De’Anthony Melton and Tobias Harris, who focused on creation, while setting an example in defense, despite Tyrese Haliburton’s enthusiasm.

TOPS/FLOPS

Buddy Hield. If the Pacers were able to overtime, despite the delay of ten points at the beginning of the fourth quarter, it was mainly thanks to the 6 victories on 3-pts (in 14 attempts) of their rear. Left too often free behind the arc, and was well served by Tyrese Haliburton, the Bahamian sniper (also present on the rebound and pass) so that the Sixers’ defense suffered in the last action, bringing his team back into contact and made it completely pass through, then hoping for a heist unforeseen. Unfortunately, his heat stroke was ultimately not rewarded with victory.

Montrezl Harrell. Voted Sixth Man of the Year three seasons ago, “Trezz” remains a player capable of making the most of his minutes when he gets them and, without Joel Embiid, the Sixers will certainly need him to show it The contract was completed for him, author of 19 points (8/9 on shots), 5 rebounds and 4 blocks from the bench. As always very energetic, the pivot therefore brought a lot of good things to Doc Rivers’ staff, which pushed the latter to use him in important moments, despite his defensive limitations. Limits that, for once, are not (too) visible.

Philadelphia and the defensive withdrawal. Offensively, the Sixers may have been grounded collectively (seven players with more than 10 points) but, defensively, they still paid dearly for their inability to recover quickly and prevent the Pacers from run to score against -attack (32 points conceded in transition. situations, against 18 scored). A weakness that was especially observed in the fourth quarter, when Indianapolis players signed it run which allowed them to take the score.
