What football matches are coming to the Peacock in January

Hosting in 2023 means hosting some major football matches shown exclusively on the Peacock in January.

True, the only football property Peacock owns is the Premier League. However, that still means about four or five games every weekend that are exclusive to the service. These usually include major games. Derbies, first four matches and especially relegation busts are common at the Peacock, and it’s no different for football games in January.

In the past, NBC taped its key games for the USA Network or even NBC on Saturdays at 12:30 pm ET. As you can see, this is not necessary for January. Perhaps in an effort to lure subscribers to the Peacock, NBC put some of the season’s biggest contests on the service.

Currently, Peacock remains at $4.99 per month or an annual option at $49.99. It provides access to most of NBC’s content, including exclusive shows and movies, in addition to Premier League matches.

Thursday January 5 – Chelsea v Manchester City

Midweek games are probably more frequent on Peacock, simply because of other content on USA Network or NBC. Still, it remains a massive fixture, regardless of Chelsea’s relative struggles. Pep Guardiola has had Chelsea’s numbers since losing to the Blues in the Champions League final in 2021. However, Graham Potter needs to point the ship in the right direction, with Chelsea in the bottom half of the table.

Saturday January 14 – Brighton v Liverpool

As for Graham Potter, his former employers are doing well despite losing the England coach. Once again Brighton are in the top half of the table, with notable results against Chelsea, Manchester United and a difficult draw at Anfield. That 3-3 game is what makes this Brighton-Liverpool clash so fascinating. That game a few months ago may have been the game of the season, as Leandro Trossard scored a hat trick.

Saturday January 14 – Manchester United v Manchester City

One of the few games this season to beat the 3-3 draw between Brighton and Liverpool was the first Manchester Derby of the season. City beat United at the Etihad, 6-3. However, this is a United team that has changed significantly since that game. Erik ten Hag has sunk United, and that is especially true at home. The Red Devils have not conceded a goal at home since early September, having collected 19 points from a possible 21 since the opening day defeat to Brighton.

For Manchester City, this is an important game for more than bragging rights. Arsenal are building something of a cushion at the top of the table, with eight points coming into this game. Therefore, City have no time to drop points, even though they still have two games against Arsenal pending.

Saturday January 14 – Everton v Southampton

Yes, another one of the January 14 football matches is only available on Peacock. But this is not a derby, or a battle for teams competing for places or titles in Europe. Instead, it is more hopeless. Everton and Southampton are locked in a relegation battle at the moment. These head-to-head games cannot be understated in their importance. Dropping points is one thing, but it allows direct rivals to gain points and, therefore, get out of the heist. Emotions run high as teams chase results.

Monday January 23 – Fulham v Tottenham

One of the underrated spots this season is newly promoted Fulham. After a down season in the Championship, the Craven Cottage side are flying in the top flight. Indeed, there are reasons to believe that Fulham can legitimately compete for a place in Europe. It’s a lofty goal, but recent results don’t detract from it.

For Tottenham, even though it is higher in the table, it is disappointment. Antonio Conte himself admitted that finishing in the top four is a serious challenge that even he can handle. As a result, this London Derby has a new flavor of significance traditionally reserved for something like Arsenal versus Chelsea.
