The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but also the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus, have been revealed through images, leaks and rumors. 200 megapixel sensor, telephoto lens, Snapdragon chip, design… We check everything expected in the next flagships of the Korean giant.
Samsung should announce a Galaxy S23 Ultra early next year, in January or February 2023. Flagship of the premium range of the Korean giant, it is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated smartphones every year. Obviously, it will be accompanied by two little brothers: the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus.

After an S22 Ultra that is both exciting in terms of its design (inspired by the Note, the loss of the photo block in favor of the inclusion of the teardrop), but somewhat disappointing, at least in Europe, because of his half baked Exynos 2200 chip, the S23 Ultra is more than expected. The same goes for the S23 and S23 Plus in the slightly cheaper segments.

Design
Sometimes not custom, the French OnLeaks published renderings of the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 + before their officialization. A few hours later, it also showed the expected design of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Should I remind him? The leaker is known for his good information that he gets through industry sources. The pictures he shares are therefore very believable.
Below is a preview of the classic Samsung Galaxy S23.

The accidentally published promotional images of the Galaxy S23 Plus and S23 Ultra allow you to get a more accurate idea.

Looking at these renders, the two models are said to be almost identical in terms of design, apart from their different sizes. The Samsung Galaxy S23 like the Galaxy S23+ is entitled to an evolution in the image unit. It will have the same aesthetics as the S22 Ultra. In other words, each camera module will be integrated separately from the others. In addition, the colors should be a little less than last year. We’re going with four colors versus nine on the S22.
Regarding the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, we should expect a slightly revisited design at the level of the two cameras on the back (the two on the right). They fit better into the chassis so they don’t protrude into the relief unlike the others which remain protruding. Another nuance: the side edges will be less rounded than the S22 Ultra. The latter is very angular.

The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ S23 Ultra should differ slightly from their predecessors. Example:
- S22 Ultra 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9mm;
- S23 Ultra 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9mm.
The screen, like every year, should set the standard for the rest of the industry. If we remember, Samsung provides most of the smartphone panels of its competitors and its flagships benefit from the best. A sign of this advance, the screen of the Galaxy S23 Ultra will increase this year to 2200 cd / m².
Other things are almost certain: the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is on track to continue to carry an S Pen stylus (with dedicated space for its storage) and to always bet on great photo versatility thanks to a great array of rear cameras. Small surprise, the stylus this year should have the same color as the shell of your phone. We had to take advantage of four variants: black, green, pink (Light Pink) and beige.
New that is not always visible, but very useful, the Galaxy S23 Ultra may be one of the first phones to protect its screen behind the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Enough to theoretically resist a fall on concrete at one meter .
Picture
Demanding a premium smartphone, it is in the picture that some leaks are in focus. If the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus should a priori draw on the image components of the S22, the Ultra model can rely on a 200 megapixel sensor made by Samsung. It will be Isocell HP2, which according to Ice Universe will be ” better of the three 200 megapixel sensors developed so far by the Korean firm. The brand recently officially presented a sensor that could be in its future flagship. This should significantly improve night mode according to Ice Universe.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is not the first smartphone to feature a 200 megapixel photo sensor. This title goes to the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra.

For others, the rumors are coming Galaxy Clubindicate that the phone should retain a 10x optical zoom paired with a 10-megapixel sensor. If this can be confirmed, it is not always a bad thing because this photo module achieves successes.
Ice Universe has since published what it claims is a comparison between the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra and Pixel 7 Pro. It’s a crop, meaning we get to zoom in on the image and with this little game, the next Samsung phone can teach its little companions a lesson.

Also in the video, the Galaxy S23 will have new features to spare. In fact, it can shoot in 8K at up to 30 fps versus 24 fps previously. What is better adapted to televisions. All you need to do now is find an 8K TV.
On the selfie sensor side, Samsung will make a surprising choice. So we go from 40 megapixels to 12 megapixels. Hopefully this will yield quality gains.
Performance and autonomy
Now let’s see what’s under the hood.
First news: a priori, Samsung will no longer push its Exynos chips from the S23 generation. For the S23, that means that instead of an Exynos 2300, it will opt for the as-yet-unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Qualcomm also confirmed the information, so it smells pretty good. It is also possible that the S23 will benefit from an overclocked version with a frequency of 3.36 GHz against the base 3.2 GHz.
If this seems a little technical, even secondary at first glance, know that the Exynos of the S22 Ultra, and especially the temperature management in its game, are among the main flaws of the phone in our eyes. An S23 Ultra under Snapdragon would therefore be very good news for everyone.
The gain on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 could be significant. According to a leak, the device will get 36% in CPU, 48% in GPU and 60% in NPU.
Moreover, Samsung and Qualcomm entered into a major long-term agreement.

Before moving on to autonomy, let’s stop for a moment on One UI 6 (Android 14). According to information from the site Android AuthoritySamsung will introduce in this generation the“Seamless Updates”, understand through these updates that are carried out without blocking the smartphone. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra should come with a slightly more advanced version of One UI 5, called One UI 5.1. Enough to add new software.
In the battery, the famous leaker Universe of ice claims that the S23 Ultra will retain the 5000 mAh capacity, the same as last year. We can only hope Samsung finds a way to better optimize its phone to get better autonomy. Replacing the chip may help. The S23 Plus for its part will get 200 mAh to get to 4700 mAh and the main S23, to 3900 mAh, which will have the same 200 mAh. In addition to this, the Galaxy S23 will introduce a new performance mode called “Light” that will allow you to get a little more autonomy if necessary.
Performance wise, cooling can play a big role. In this little game, three Galaxy S23s can’t be put in the same boat. The S23 Ultra will benefit from a vapor chamber, the S23 Plus will have a heat pipe system while the S23 will rely on several sheets of graphite and its unique chassis.
Let’s mention the storage, which will increase only on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It can reach 256 GB in the minimum configuration. On the charging side, bad news: the Galaxy S23 will always enjoy a maximum of 25 W.
Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra price and release date
It is too early to comment on the availability or price of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, we can count on the carelessness of a Samsung official who quietly announced that the phone will be presented in February 2023. According to Ice Universe, the set date is February 1.
As for the price, let’s recall the price list of the S22 Ultra when it was released: from 1259 euros with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage to 1459 euros with 12 + 512 GB. In the context of rising prices in France and in Europe, it wouldn’t be surprising if Samsung raised the bill a bit more.
