Our top 3 best laptops of 2022
2022 is over! In the new year, this is the perfect opportunity to stock up and choose the three best laptops that marked us this year in writing. For 2022, it’s on the side of Asus, Apple and Lenovo that we need to look at.
The year 2022 has been rich in many points on the technology side. For laptops, it saw the official arrival of foldable screens, as well as new generations of chips such as the 12th generation, very successful with Intel, or the M2 with Apple. It should also be noted that, like everything else, prices don’t fall… but rather rise.
This year is clearly the year of ultrabooks: the three best PCs this year are all of them. It should also be noted that they are more and more powerful, with a better controlled heating.
We’ve awarded a whole bunch of tech products this year: find them all in our Frandroid Tech Awards list.
9 /10
- Good power and controlled heating
- Stunning OLED display
- Thin, light, strong
Available at €1,499 at Fnac
The Zenbook S 13 Oled has everything you need for the perfect ultraportable. Thin, light, stylish, the featherweight from Asus measures just 1.49 cm at the thickest point. It is the perfect companion for any nomad as it weighs only 1.096 kg. Beautiful, all aluminum, with a large keyboard and a trackpad that extends as far as possible, it fully encourages mobile productivity.
But where the Asus stands out, especially in this price bracket, is in the screen. The OLED panel at 2880 × 1800 pixels, touchscreen, is particularly well balanced, in addition to being adaptable according to your needs. But the Zenbook also stands out for its performance, which is surprisingly good: the Ryzen 7 6800U does a perfect job and thanks to the AMD Radeon 680M graphics chipset, you can run some fairly demanding tasks, in particular some games… while keeping it from heating up.
The Asus ultrabook is also pleasing in terms of autonomy, which reaches the day if you make the right settings. Of course, we can notice some black points here and there, such as the location of the speakers under the chassis, or the absence of 90 Hz for cooling.
However, considering all these points, the Zenbook S13 Oled is the model to recommend for those looking for an ultraportable under Windows.
7 /10
- Efficient and very autonomous
- Flawless keyboard and touchpad
- Completely silent
Available at €1,299 on Amazon
Apple has been perfecting its popular MacBook Air for years. And it is clear that the apple brand has reached a certain maturity with the 2022 edition, called the MacBook Air M2. It must be said that the company took a giant step in 2020 with the introduction of ARM processors.
In 2022, the M2, a worthy successor to the M1, is therefore stronger, both in terms of power, heating and autonomy. The performance/autonomy ratio is the best in its range. Without fans, the MacBook Air is completely silent. This is the perfect machine for working: the keyboard and Touchpad reach an excellent level of finish and comfort. The same is true for the quality of the aluminum chassis, which now resembles the design of the MacBook Pro and places it in a premium range. However, the device is not free of defects: the new notch on the screen is not the most pleasant, and it deprives us of Face ID. Also lack of confidence in the resistance of paint of dark color.
If you want a Mac, you obviously can’t go wrong with the latest Apple. But it is necessary on the other hand to pay the price, because the company has greatly increased its prices. It is certainly the best laptop of 2022, considering it only for what it is, the buyer will however have to make his choice in light of the presence of the MacBook Air M1, which can be just as interesting.
8 /10
- Top design
- An unbeatable featherweight
- Good Intel SoC performance
Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7i Carbon lives up to its name. Weighing less than a kilogram, it’s also particularly thin and compact with its small 13.3-inch panel. Lenovo manages to score points everywhere: a high-quality design and chassis, a pleasant keyboard and touchpad, a fluid screen, excellent performance and satisfactory battery life.
The 2560×1600 pixel IPS display is excellent for web use, and benefits from a satisfying 90Hz refresh rate. Lenovo. Thanks to its 12th generation Intel SoC (i5 i5-1240P or i7-1260P depending on the configuration), the Slim 7i Carbon is on all fronts. Autonomy, meanwhile, can reach a maximum of 10 hours, which is really noble for such a thin PC.
In short, in 2022 Lenovo delivered a particularly well-balanced mobile and high-end PC.
