here are the new Asus PCs with RTX 4000 sauce

Asus has unveiled its new Asus ROG Strix and ROG Strix SCAR, its gaming range. There are panels from 16 to 18 inches, mini LED, Nvidia, AMD and Intel.

Asus took advantage of CES as usual to unveil its new ROG PCs. Here are the six models presented this Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

ROG Strix G16 and G18

We start with RoG Strix G16 and G18. As their names suggest, they include 16 and 18 inch panels, all in 16:10. You’ll have a choice between FHD+ or QHD+ definitions. In detail, in 16 inches, we can see the mini LED up to 165 Hz in QHD + or in 18 inches, IPS 240 Hz. The screens show 3 ms of latency, 100% of DCI-P3 space and G compatibility Sync and Dolby Vision.

To make it all work, you’ll need to rely on Intel Core processors up to i9 and the new RTX 4000 mobile graphics card. You can include up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM at 4800 MHz and up to 2 TB of storage on M .2 PCIe 4.0

The chassis has been refreshed for the occasion and certainly, its refresh will go through three Frost Force fans, a Pulsar heat sink and a new solution called Conductonaut Extreme. It is a liquid metal compound deposited on the CPU that promotes heat transfer.

On the connector side, there is Thunderbolt 4, an HDMI 2.1, a 2.5 G Lan Jack port. All are accompanied by a 720p webcam, as well as a Wi-Fi 6E modem.

With its 90 WHr battery and included 330W charging block, the PC weighs up to 2.7 kg at 16 inches and up to 3.3 kg at 18 inches.

ROG Strix G17

Let’s move on to the ROG Strix G17. You won’t be surprised to know that this is a 17-inch gaming laptop. This time, AMD is taking care of the CPU up to a Ryzen 9 (model not yet announced) as well as the new RTX 40 mobile graphics cards. Here we once again see ROG’s intelligent cooling ecosystem with its Conductonaut Extreme. The chassis has been updated with a new 720p webcam, while the IO now has updated HDMI 2.1.

For the IPS screen, you will have a choice between QHD up to 240 Hz, 300 cd / m² of maximum brightness and 3 ms of reactivity, all in Dolby Vision, or even an FHD panel at 144 Hz maximum, 250 cd /m² of brightness up to 25 ms latency.

Autonomy is based on a 90 Whz battery and a 280 W charging unit. Charging via USB-C on PD is offered up to 100 W. WiFi 6E is included, as well as 2 USB type C ports ( USB 3.2 Gen 2, DP 1.4 (dGPU) G-Sync) and two UBS type A port to USB 3.2 Gen 2. Also note the presence of a jack.

ROG Strix SCAR 16 and 18 Intel

We now approach the ROG Strix SCAR range. On the Intel side, Asus relies on 16 and 18 inch panels with thin borders: 3.75 mm for a body-screen ratio of 89%. Here are the details of the proposed tiles:

• 16 inches:
  • QHD+ miniLED, 165Hz, 100% DCI-P3, 1200 cd/m², peak brightness, 3ms;
  • QHD+ IPS, 240Hz, 100% DCI-P3, 500cd/m², 3ms.
• 18 inches:
  • QHD+ IPS, 240Hz, 100% DCI-P3, 500cd/m², 3ms;
  • FHD+ IPS, 165Hz, 100% sRGB, 300cd/m², 7ms.

For power, these Strix SCARs rely on the latest mobile Intel CPUs and the latest Nvidia RTX 40 laptop cards with 150+25W power. They will be assisted by up to 64GB of DDR5 4800Mhz RAM and up to 2+2 TB of storage in PCIe Gen 4×4.

To complete this setup, you’ll find up to four Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. Here are the ports provided by Asus:

  • 1x HDMI (2.1 support), HDCP SPEC 2.2 support
  • 1 integrated audio jack: microphone and earphone input.
• To the right :
  • 2x USB Type-A USB3.2 Gen2

ROG Strix SCAR 17 AMD

We conclude with the ROG Strix SCAR 17 delivered by AMD. It will include a chip that displays up to 65W of power and 55W in turbo mode. For the graphics part, no surprise, NVIDIA includes a mobile GPU with power up to 175 W (150+25W). Again the RAM can go up to 64 GB in DRR5 but with a higher frequency of 5600 MHz. Storage can be up to 2 TB on PCIe Gen 4×4 with a speed of 7000 MB/s and a slot for future upgrade if needed. All of this is cooled by four dedicated fan outputs, a vapor chamber, and liquid metal on the CPU and GPU.

For the screen, there are no 36 options. Asus has included a 17.3-inch IPS panel. In FHD, you’ll be up to 144 Hz versus 165 Hz in QHD. Dolby Vision is supported.

The battery that drives it all reaches 90 Wh in capacity and can be recharged with either Power delivery at 100W or through the adapter provided with the device, which shows 280 W or 330 W depending on the model.

Here are the prices and availability of new products.

• ROG Strix SCAR 16 will be available in the 1st quarter of 2023 from € 3,999 plus tax recommended retail price;
• ROG Strix SCAR 18 will be available in the 1st quarter of 2023 from € 3,999 plus tax recommended retail price;
• ROG Strix G16 will be available in the 1st quarter of 2023 from €1,699 plus tax, recommended retail price;
• ROG Strix G18 will be available in the 1st quarter of 2023 from €2,399 including tax, recommended retail price;
• ROG Strix SCAR 17 will be available in the 1st quarter of 2023 from €3,799 including tax, recommended retail price;
• ROG Strix G17 will be available in the 1st quarter of 2023 from € 2,299 plus tax recommended retail price.
