In freefall, Wizards are afraid to give up
Bad night for the Wizards, who suffered an Anthony Davis feast, conceded a heavy loss at home and even lost Bradley Beal. Hit the hamstrings after two minutes of play, the back didn’t return. Concerns are mounting as Wes Unseld Jr.’s troops. has dropped to six losses in seven games and the return schedule promises to be tougher.
To make matters worse, Rui Hachimura (ankle) is still in the infirmary, as is Delon Wright (thigh), expected to return in ten days, while “two-way contract” Devon Dotson entered quarantine.
That’s why it’s time for the general mobilization of the troops after the loss against the Lakers with a lead of up to 29 points in the third quarter.
“We’re not going to lower the season now. We still have a chance. We just have to find a solution together.”Kyle Kuzma launched.
The collective was once again put to the test
Although Washington recovered from Bradley Beal’s first six-game absence (4 wins for 2 losses), this is a new challenge for the rest of the group, even if the Wizards leader’s incompetence should not take a long time
“It’s a big responsibility that we, the rest of the team, have to take on”Kristaps Porzingis recalled. “There were times when Brad was not there, when he was not there because of Covid, where we responded well, playing with a lot of energy. We know that everyone has to raise their level, and the most important thing, I think, is we have to understand that it’s not going to be a question of attack. Offensively, we’ll find our situations. Of course, we’re a different team without Brad. But defensively we really have to concentrate so we can compete without him. I hope he won’t be long.”
The situation is delicate but not yet hopeless. Like the Lakers, the Wizards are at the first turning point in their season, and it’s a question of getting as close to it as possible to limit the damage, hoping for a quick return from Bradley Beal. As they experienced last season, it is as a team that Wes Unseld Jr’s troops will find the key. “We’ve done this before”recalls the DC coach.
“The most important thing is not to fall”added Corey Kispert. “We have to stay together. There may be no ‘us versus them’ or clans within the team. We are one, and we need to find a solution together. That’s what we will do. It’s part of the NBA season. There are good times and bad times, and we are going through one of those. We don’t deny it.”
Next game Wednesday in Chicago, against another contending team in the East.
