An improved version of Flip 3
As usual for a few hours, no charger or transfer cable. Just the tool to open the SIM card drawer.
First foldable smartphone in the test, the format appeared in the original. Fourth to its name, it weighs a paltry 184 g. Unfolded, it measures 6.7″. Folded, it comes with a 1.9″ screen in front of it. Open, On the left side, at the top is the single SIM card drawer. eSIM is also supported. On the right, the fingerprint reader is at the top and the volume potentiometer is at the top. On the bottom edge, the USB-C 3.2 port and the speaker are located from left to right. The front camera is placed in the center that blends in with the screen. Another camera on the back houses two lenses as well as flash. On the back, the surface appears smooth. And, the sides seem to be thicker than the Flip 3. The hinge is also reinforced. The Samsung logo located on the outer fold is less thick. You should also know that the screen is protected by a film that has already been applied, which you will not want to remove, under penalty of damaging the screen. It is possible that we can put one on the outer screen, but we have to be careful in choosing the tempered glass that is compatible with it. The protective glass is Gorilla Glass Victus in nature, especially one of the latest products from the Corning Glass company.
Under the hood 4/5
We went from a Flip 3 model with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 to this sweetly named Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Four cores clocked at 2 Ghz, three cores at 2.7 Ghz and a final core at around 3.2 Ghz make up the microprocessor etched at 4 nm. Next to the latter, the Adreno 730 graphics chip shows everything. The two foldable screens as well as the external screen are of the AMOLED type, showing a pixel fineness of 426 dpi. The frequency increases to 120 Hz, while the maximum resolution is 2640×1080. In this model, 8 GB of RAM is implemented in DDR5 as well as 256 GB of non-expandable storage. The battery has 3700 mAh.
Daily use 3.5/5
If we consider that we look at our phone ten or even hundreds of times a day, it seems to us that the biggest fear is that the hinge will break mechanically. And to be honest, the opening mechanism is more difficult than the Flip 3. For those who like to manage their phone with one hand, it’s not very obvious, but it’s still reassuring. To see the fold, you’ll need to position the phone horizontally while vertically it seems to be absent most of the time. In Android 12, the basic calling function seems normal to us. The loudspeaker delivers good sound, and the other party can hear the discussion. The headphone output delivers excellent sound, without saturation. Maximum power is not required. The graphics circuit allows you to play without any concessions. The external screen can be programmed to display, for example, mail notifications, the calendar as well as many programs that are compatible and configured on the screen. Autonomy remains the norm, with the possibility to change energy options to favor the moments when the user needs it. Fast charging is also enabled.
Photo and video 2.5/5
Unlike popular phones, the Flip 4 has two rear lenses as well as a front lens. The main lens has a 12 megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture with 1.8 micrometers of pixel size, the second also has 12 megapixels on the counter with f/2.2 aperture. Its pixel size is 1.12 micrometers, its specialty appears as wide angle. The front has a 10 megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture and 1.22 micrometers of pixels. In view of the shots taken, it is clear that the integrated cameras are not familiar with the best. In fact, some blurry shots of the desired object leave regret. Photos taken at night are clearly yellow but not uninteresting, despite the 12 megapixel sensor. What is original is obviously the front sensor which is the most interesting because it is cleaner and can film in 4K. Taking pictures at parties with friends can be very interesting and fun. There is an option to display on the external screen as soon as you take the picture, like a mirror where you want to improve your pose. The rest of the settings remain the average of all photophones.
