The Moroccan Automobile Construction Company (SOMACA), on Wednesday in Casablanca, celebrated the production of its 1 millionth vehicle since 2005, the year in which the Renault Group controlled the plant, and unveiled the new visual identity of the Dacia brand . .
During this ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, guests visited the various workshops of this emblematic factory before entering the exit from the assembly lines of a Dacia Logan that with serial number 1,000,000 and equipped. with a new visual identity, intended for the Moroccan market.
At the same time, the Dacia range with a new emblem deployed simultaneously in all the brand’s production sites around the world – Dacia Link – was presented to the public, and the first cars, produced in SOMACA and equipped with a new visual identity. , will arrive in the Dacia network in Morocco from December 2022, specifically on the Dacia Logan, Sandero Streetway and Sandero Stepway. Thus, Dacia opened a new chapter in its history with the adoption of a new brand identity involving a new logo for its entire range, new dealerships, new designs and new colors. Beyond the design changes, this development also brings promises for the future, while using the great values that have made Dacia so successful.
With a value of more than 73,000 vehicles in 2021, exports from Morocco are intended, first of all, for the French, Spanish and Italian markets, which are the leading importing countries for models made in SOMACA, which, in addition to meeting local demand, exports. more than 75% of its global production volume. Since the arrival of the Renault Group in SOMACA, the leading factory in the automotive industry in Morocco has entered a new period of change. With an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, the Renault Group plant in Casablanca has a 5,000 m2 logistics platform, a sheet metal department with 20% robotization and a fully modernized painting and assembly department.
At the same time, SOMACA continues its dynamic continuous improvement with the deployment of industry 4.0 and the implementation of several training programs addressed to its employees to adapt them to this very high technological change.
In this regard, the CEO of Renault Group Morocco, Mohamed Bachiri, emphasized the investment efforts made by the Group since the acquisition of SOMACA in 2005, especially in human capital and in industrial tools 4.0, noting that the these new technologies allowed the plant. to increase productivity, and provide new jobs for operators in terms of care, maintenance, programming and automatons.
In addition, Mr. Bachiri recalled the agreements concluded with the supervisory ministry for the creation of two ecosystems around the automotive industry, one in 2016 and another in 2021, with the aim of raising the rate of local integration to reach 64 % last year. , which represents the increasing power and scope of the national automobile sector. After noting that the target objective of Renault Morocco is to bring the integration rate to 80% in the long term, Mr. Bachiri specified, that the Group is working to promote and integrate its environment of direct suppliers, such as in “rank 1” whose number increased from 16 in 2016 to reach 76 in 2021, which now has over 12,000 employees. Speaking at the same time, Mr. Mezzour produced one million vehicles at the Renault group’s Casablanca plant, noting that the same number of vehicles produced in 57 years – from the opening of SOMACA in 1959 to 2016 – i.e. 500,000 is equivalent to the workforce that produced between 2016 and 2022.
“In 6 years, SOMACA has achieved the success of achieving, in terms of production capacity, the same result as obtained in 57 years of work (…) this is Morocco today, it firmly testifies to the excellent technological development of our country which currently manages to produce the best selling car in Europe”, he rejoiced, noting that at this rate, SOMACA should, at the end of the next 4 years, be celebrated the second millionth car produced.
The Minister also highlighted the efforts made by the human capital of SOMACA, who are proud of their ownership of this jewel of Moroccan industry and who operate there, for some, from father to son in for three generations, accepting their commitment and the extraordinary way of collaboration between different stakeholders and social actors. This ceremony, which was attended by the Wali of the region of Casablanca-Settat, Saïd Ahmidouch, the industrial director of Dacia, Christophe Dridi, and the managing director of the factories of Tangier and SOMACA, Miguel Oliver-Boquera, with all the players in the Renault ecosystem in Morocco, were rewarded with a car raffle for the benefit of plant operators.
Established in Morocco since 1928, the Renault Group produces two brands, Renault and Dacia, which represent four vehicles out of ten of the total workforce sold in the national territory. The Renault plant in Casablanca (SOMACA) has been producing models of the Renault brand since 1966 and models from the Dacia range since 2005. The history of the Group in Morocco experienced a new impetus in 2012 with the inauguration of the factory of Renault-Tangier, the largest automobile factory in Africa. By exporting most of their production, the Moroccan factories of the Renault Group are one of the pillars of its international development.
