Joel Embiid’s incredible performance is summed up in numbers

– No preparation. Joel Embiid surprised the world on Sunday at the Jazz reception. Facing the team with the best record in the West so far, the Cameroonian pivot just put in a legendary performance and the biggest game of his career. Judge instead.

Embiid compiled 59 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 (!) Blocks, 24 hours after dropping 42 points the other day against Atlanta. The best part is that he did it in a tight fight. Nikola Jokic’s runner-up in last year’s MVP race was instrumental in the 4th quarter by scoring 26 of the Sixers’ 27 points, which is meaningless in an NBA game in 2022.

Since the introduction of blocks in official statistics in 1973, absolutely no one has totaled at least 50 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks in a game. This is to say the historical part of what succeeded Joel Embiid, who definitely recovered from his illness and the loss of James Harden.

With this second straight loss, the Jazz, who still fought well, slipped to third place and began, perhaps, their gradual return to the ranks.

– The new leader of the West, tied with Portland, is Denver! The Nuggets have had a bit of a sluggish start to their season, but they are here at the level we expect them to be. Michael Malone’s players dominated Chicago, Illinois, with a Nikola Jokic faithful to what it has offered since the start of the season, meaning less scoring, but always more playmaking.

The double MVP scored just 8 points but dished out 14 assists in a game his team almost dominated from start to finish. Michael Porter Jr. feasted with 31 points against the struggling Bulls who have lost four of their last five games.

– We didn’t expect it honestly in the absence of Bradley Beal, but Washington is one of the teams in the best shape of the moment in the East in the NBA. The Wizards won their fourth in a row, and not least, beating Memphis. The task was made easier by resting Ja Morant and Desmond Bane, but work still needed to be done.

Kristaps Porzingis (25 pts) and Deni Avdija (21 pts), whose return to five coincided with his team’s return to form, carrying the team offensively to make the Wizards 5th in its Conference.

– Cleveland is on the other hand in poor. The Cavs, who may have been disheartened by their impressive start to the season, lost their fourth straight, this time at home against the Wolves. Defeat comes to overcome the monster game of Darius Garland (51 pts), who will have to work hard to make up for the absence of Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen.

Minnesota nearly folded the game after three quarters in a somewhat reassuring collective performance after the porridge of the past few weeks. D’Angelo Russell (30 pts, 12 wt) unleashed his best game of the season, in a joint effort with Karl Anthony Towns (29 points, 13 rebounds). Rudy Gobert compiled 15 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocks.

– The Lakers got a scare, but they got a victory over Brooklyn that will put some balm in their hearts. Despite the absence of LeBron James, Los Angeles had a solid game to dominate the Nets and lead by 18 points until the money came. There, Brooklyn returned to 4 points after the Kevin Durant (31 pts, 9 rebounds, 7 wt). The Californians stayed, led by Anthony Davis, who had his biggest game of the season (37 pts, 18 rebounds), with a great second half on his part.

Russell Westbrook shot a little backwards (4/15), but his energy and his playmaking off the bench (14 pts, 12 pd) were invaluable. He offered himself one of the actions of the match by countering “KD” with deception.

– Tom Thibodeau might want to break the walls and mouths in the Madison Square Garden locker room. He, initially a defensive specialist, saw his Knicks score 145 points in an NBA game without overtime against Oklahoma City. New York couldn’t stop the pair Shai Gilgeous-AlexanderJosh Giddey.

The two friends fell in the ranks of Gotham, with 37 points for “SGA” and a triple-double for the Australian (24 pts, 12 pds, 10 rebounds), becoming the only player in NBA history with Wilt Chamberlain scores two TDs for his first two games at MSG!

OKC strangely made the Garden its own, as it was the fifth straight time the Thunder had won at Penn Station.

Evan Fournier came off the bench 20 minutes in for a 0 in attack.

– The Warriors continue to be inconsistent and irregular in both games, which explains their record (5-8) after their recent loss in Sacramento last night. Golden State led by 15 points at the end of the 1st quarter and was on its way to a quiet victory, before breaking the engagement and letting the Kings go back and rest.

Despite a good run in the 4th (13-2) to take the lead at the start of money time, Stephen Curry (27 pts) and his teammates were absent in the final minutes. The Kings, brought by Domantas Sabonis (26 pts, 22 rebounds), De’Aaron Fox (22 pts) and Keegan Murray (21 pts) scored 13 of the game’s final 17 points. Sacro has a balanced record (6-6) and a three-ranked winning streak. The Warriors wish they could say the same…
