The Celtics are eyeing a fifth victory over the Nuggets

In a relatively calm first night of the weekend in the NBA, with very few big posters, this Celtics – Nuggets in Boston is clearly the most attractive rivalry, as it is a meeting between the two heavyweights of their respective conferences, holders of the same record (8-3) and both on a four-game winning streak.

However, the reality is a little different because the game went one way, the Celtics. Ahead at the break (66-57), after counting up to 18 points early, the “Beantown” troop never worried and finally imposed 19 points, after the gap widened in the endgame (131- 112).

Most of the time, the duo Jayson Tatum (34 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists) – Jaylen Brown (25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists) brought the Celtics, generally very effective in the attack under the impetus of their “Jay’s” duo, especially in the exercise of outside shooting (16/37, 43.2%). On the contrary, a Nikola Jokic who is true to himself (29 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists), as usual, even if a little lonely in the attack. The Nuggets were pretty serious on defense, but were only overwhelmed by the relentless attack from the residents of TD Garden.

Boston offers a fifth consecutive victory and secures its place on the podium of the East a little more, while Denver, despite the loss, remains in ambush behind the duo Utah – Portland, along with Memphis and Phoenix.

WHAT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER

Payton Pritchard reappears. Shut down this season by Joe Mazzulla (4 games played, in 7.3 minutes), the replacement point guard for the Celtics had a rare opportunity to show himself, mainly because the game was folded minutes before the last buzzer. But no matter, these minutes are necessarily good for the former Oregon, who is trying to maintain confidence without any rhythm for three weeks. In 16 minutes, he compiled 11 points (5/6) and 5 assists.

The Celtics attack was right. The Celtics haven’t always been consistent on defense this season, but they’re still doing damage on offense. Proof of this is that they had the best offensive rating in the entire league before this meeting (118.5 points per 100 possessions). And after that, the search does not change: 131 points on 55.6% of the shots (43.2% from behind the arc), 30 assists for only 5 losses of the ball. The C chain is the “masterclass” in attack, and the achievements follow logically.

TOPS/FLOPS

“to Jay”. Successful night for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, often. The two wingers compiled 59 points (but 16 rebounds and 13 assists) to guide their team to victory, with a relatively noble efficiency (22/36 in two). ” It’s their job, it’s what they do in your defense every night. And we did nothing to stop them Denver coach Mike Malone later regretted it. We noted in particular a very good first half, smart and effective st especially difficult maneuvers for the defense of Denver. Until his 11th shot in the third quarter, missed, Jaylen Brown was also based on a perfect night, 10/10 on shots.

Nikola Jokic. Very strong, but a little sad. Here’s a good summary of “Joker’s” night, complete with this part even if its +/- of -14 is not very flattering, especially because of a questionable defense. As the match quickly turned sour for Denver, the Serbian pivot played less than half an hour, certain to keep himself without delay for the next deadline.

⛔️ Michael Porter Jr.. Match to forget for the Denver winger, too obsessed with attack, a little less in his defensive assignments. Aside from 4 defensive rebounds, his contribution was particularly poor: 7 points on 3/10 (1/6 on 3-pts). Logically, his +/- was affected: -24, the worst in the match.
