Renault: the electric car in the skin

When talking about French cars, it is almost impossible to miss the Renault group. Thanks to its many subsidiaries, all specializing in one area, the group led by Luca de Meo has become a mustif in Dacia, Mobilize and even Alpine. At the Paris Motor Show in Paris held at the beginning of October Porte de Versailles, we saw how ambitious the French group was!

through his Renaulution strategic plan – launched in January 2021 – the automotive giant wants to make the technology the starting point for its future vehicles. The CEO of the group, Luca de Meo, explained the launch of this large-scale plan:

Renaulution aims to transform our business strategy, moving it from quantity to value. We will give our brands more strength, each with a clear and distinct territory. From a car company that works in technology, to a technology company that works in cars.

The electric vehicle is one of the central points, therefore it is logical Renault wants to be the number one representative of electric cars in France, and why not in the world? Only the rumor finally became reality this Tuesday, when the group announced its new organization, with dedicated entities by type of activity. Two sub-entities will be created, Ampere (electric) and Power (thermal and hybrid)for allow electrical products to have more freedom and above all, to be seen in the financial markets.

Ampere: the solution to get electricity in the stock market?

” Divide and rule. » The quote from Philip of Macedon (father of Alexander the Great) lends itself perfectly to the strategy that Renault wants to implement with its two sub-entities. On the one hand, we will have power “The traditional core business of the Renault Group will continue to develop innovative low-emission thermal and hybrid vehicles under the Renault, Dacia and Renault LCV brands” and in another, Ampere who qualifies as “First pure electrical and software player born from the disruption of a traditional car manufacturer”.

The idea behind this split is to allow Renault’s electric cars to appear in financial markets. As in all industries, investors are increasingly interested in environmental and technological issues. The stated goal of the diamond is therefore to follow the same route as some manufacturers before them (Tesla, Rivian) and togo public next year (second half of 2023). Ampere is also targeting 30% annual growth over the next eight years and 10% margin by 2030. The group hopes to achieve its goals with the release of six electric models by 2030 – Scenic, Megane, R5 and Renault 4.

For its part, the sub-entity Power aims to continue working on less polluting thermal and hybrid engines (70% reduction in CO2 emissions) until 2030. In particular, Dacia will play a major role in terms of continuing to offer “accessible mobility”. In order not to sink in the thermal market, Renault has partnered with Chinese car brand Geely, which will hold 50% of Power’s shares.

In this separation, So Renault wants to bring electricity to the top of its production by giving it a good place by creating the Ampere. A movement that, in general, could prove profitable for the French group, although this sub-entity will have to succeed in attracting investors to allow Renault to achieve its goals.
