The Lenovo ThinkPad L380 (20M50013FR) is a compact High Definition laptop designed for everyday mobile use.

Its compactness and compact weight make it easy to transport. On the autonomy side, the brand communicates 12 hours of battery operation that can be reached with light use as it lasts about 11:30 am surfing the Internet via Wi-Fi.

The anti-reflective treatment of the screen is therefore particularly important as it offers better visibility in a bright environment (eg outdoors) than a glossy screen. IPS, the screen reproduces colors more faithfully than usual while ensuring very comfortable viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically. Full HD, the screen is also very good at displaying High Definition content and especially videos due to its 16: 9 format.

Of course, it is possible to view photos and videos on this Ultrabook thanks to the Intel UHD 620 graphics part inside the processor. Since it doesn’t come with a dedicated GPU, however, this ultraportable isn’t suitable for games.

However, it delivers excellent overall performance thanks to its 8 GB of RAM and the low-power Kaby Lake Refresh Quad Core i5-8250U processor, the latter guaranteeing faster processing than a Kaby Lake low -power Core i5/i7 under software that takes advantage of multicore architecture.

Thanks to its super-fast dedicated SSD storage, this Ultrabook is more responsive and fluid than a similar model based on a hard drive. Compared to the latter, note that SSD is faster but also more resistant to shocks, less energy and quieter. However, the capacity of the on-board SSD is usually lower than that of standard hard drives.

Despite everything, if the 256 GB offered here proves to be too tight, we can rely on an external storage unit. Favoring a USB 3.0 device represents an interesting solution because we benefit from transfers made up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0.

On-board connectivity includes 2 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) as well as 2 USB 3.1 Type-C, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.2 wireless modules for remote connection and communication, audio and Ethernet ports or even an HDMI video output useful. for easily connecting this PC to a TV or monitor for example.

Finally, this Ultrabook specifically targets professionals with its biometric reader (Windows Hello compatible) to easily and quickly identify themselves in the system, in this case Windows 10 Pro, a more complete edition than in classic Windows 10 with advanced data management tools. network and security such as BitLocker. In addition, in addition to the classic touchpad, this ultraportable offers a 2nd more accurate pointing system thanks to TrackPoint. While some appreciate that the keyboard is spill-resistant, others will not regret the lack of a backlight system for the keys.

Our opinion (June 2018):

The Lenovo ThinkPad L380 (20M50013FR) is currently available for less than 1000 euros with GrosBill and is positioned as one of the only models in its category to benefit from a Pro system and a TrackPoint.
