The Covid-19 epidemic has a negative consequence on the professional situation of women in 2020, who have to take care of children, despite progress in some countries or companies, according to the annual report of the Equileap company published on March 2021. So much so that after the first incarceration, 43% of women indicated that they wanted to change the pace of their work, considering working part-time to better fulfill their family responsibilities, according to a study conducted in January 2021 by OpinionWay for the firm Empreinte Humaine. . At stake: find a better balance between professional life and personal life.

Self-entrepreneurship has never been more popular since the Covid crisis. In fact, there was a 17.5% increase in the creation of statuses between 2019 and 2020, according to figures from INSEE 2020. During the Women in Tech round table organized on April 6 by the Comet community on female freelancers , some admitted they chose freelance status “to be freer and more recognized” over being an employee. “When we are freelance, we are sought after for our skills, and all the criteria of discrimination that we may feel within a company will disappear”, admits one of them.

In this context, Juliette Mandrin and Nicolas Jaboulay launched the Elleboss platform in 2021, connecting freelance women with companies. Incubated by Willa, this site was born from the desire to offer a solution in accordance with the need for balance between the professional and personal life of women, and to respond to the current challenges of companies, in search of flexibility for managing their resources. At the age of 44, his co-founder considers his “self-taught and atypical journey”. “I had some professional life, I stopped working for twelve years to raise my children,” he said. At 48, his partner Nicolas Jaboulay has been an insurance entrepreneur for 25 years.

From student to young retiree

This platform highlights its impact and societal dimension to respond to diversity challenges in companies. On the one hand, women can file their profile, knowing that atypical career paths are also valued and professional experiences but also communication, family, sports, are placed In front. On the other hand, companies submit their tailor-made mission and then directly exchange with the “worker” the content of his mission and the prices. “We help women highlight their life course, and this tool allows them to make an estimate and get an invoice”, explains Juliette Mandrin. Through a payment escrow process at the start of the platform’s customers, the latter ensures that each mission is paid, knowing that 60% of freelancers will struggle to recover the costs of their services.

From students to young retirees, through young mothers, or even those returning to work after parental leave, the typology of “workers” is very broad. The platform acts as a “commercial intermediary” for these women in finding assignments. It aims to remain a general platform, offering missions related to sales, digital, administration and accounting. Juliette Mandrin, however, revealed that three professions are particularly requested by her clients, who are mainly VSE-SMEs: administration, accounting and community management.

National deployment

The economic model of this platform is based on a commission system levied at 10 to 12.5%​​​​for companies and between 3 and 5% for freelance women. Subscription formulas are also possible, from 14.90 to 49.90 euros. Elleboss aims for 1.6 million in turnover by 2024, with a portfolio of 4,000 “ellebosseuses” and 800 customers. By 2025, the goal rises to 8 million euros with 16,000 “workers” and 3,200 customers.

To achieve this, the Yvelines-based platform has just started a fundraising round for 500,000 euros. “Our goal is to be the reference site for freelance women by combining the human and the digital”, says Juliette Mandrin. It also just received a grant from the BPI to include personality and skills tests in its platform. And wants to develop its service on a national scale in two years, through a network of ambassadors who will travel to big cities on meeting days.
