The end of the third heat wave is in sight. What started on July 31 should end this Sunday, August 14 with stormy weather gradually spreading across the country.

However, before the rain, we have to endure another hot day over a large part of the territory. Actu.fr make the point.

16 departments on heatwave orange alert

In its latest weather report, Saturday August 13, 2022, at 4 pm, Météo France put 16 departments on orange alert. The orange alert for thunderstorms concerning Haute-Corse and Southern Corsica has been lifted.
The 16 departments on orange alert are for the heat wave. In detail, these are: Finistère, Morbihan, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Charente, Dordogne, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Haute- Vienne, Landes.
65 other departments are on yellow alert for storms and/or heat waves.

Temperatures are still very warm this Saturday

We’ve gotten used to it a bit. It will be hot this Saturday August 13 in mainland France, with a “high pressure axis that gives very high temperatures throughout the country”, explained Claire Chanal, forecaster at Météo France.

The morning will still be very warm with temperatures fluctuating between 18 and 22 degrees at sunrise. However, the thermometer will climb lower on the coast of New Aquitaine, where it will be between 30 and 32 degrees.

For others, temperatures may still be very high. Mercury may rise to 38 degrees on an axis from Toulouse South to Brittany. In this area, the maximum is usually between 35 and 38 degrees.

It will still be a little cooler than this Friday with temperatures to be understood between 30 and 35 degrees in a northeastern quarter, around the Mediterranean and on the Atlantic coast.

It’s raining, and the floors aren’t ready yet

From this Saturday night, the weather will be stormy. “They will come to the country through the Pyrenees, then to New Aquitaine and move east”, says Claire Chanal. Occitania will also receive its first rains.

Clouds extend as far as the Pays de la Loire and Brittany, where some stormy rain is also possible.

Weather France

Overall, this Saturday, the north and east of France should remain sunny until Sunday, the end day of this third heat wave.

On August 14, storms will form a diagonal, from the southwest to the northeast of France. ” They will be violent together heavy rain (between 30 and 50 millimeters) and therefore a risk of runoff”, says Claire Chanal. Especially in Occitania and the south of the Cévennes.

The soils, so parched due to the endless drought, “find it difficult to absorb too much rain”, refers the forecaster.

Hérault, Gard and Aveyron should be the most affected by Sunday’s thunderstorms. Rainy, they can cause rain. The streams are very low, I don’t know if they will overflow, it’s too early to tell.

“Storms are always difficult to predict”, tempers Météo France.

And next week?

This is an important question when the drought affects the whole of France: will the rain continue? It’s too early to say, but the forecasts allow us to establish one observation: “Next week should be close to normal for the season there is a rainy season. »

Enough to end the drought? “That’s right, but it will not reverse the severe drought“, Météo France told us.

The expected rain alone is not enough to end the drought.
